Bregenz Festival

For 2017 the Bregenz Festival's operatic performance on the "floating" stage will be Georges Bizet's famous opera "Carmen".

Wound around her little finger...

Carmen: every man desires her.

The soldier Don José is actually meant to be arresting her after a disturbance, but she manages to quickly wind him around her little finger. His weakness results in his arrest, but he is soon released. Carmen tosses him a flower, which he takes to be a sign of her love for him, and he dreams of a future with her. He takes refuge among her band of smugglers, overhears Micaela's words of warning but sees himself as a match for the proud bullfighter Escamillo. But Carmen already belongs to this man…

The Spanish cadences of Georges Bizet's stirring music captivated the whole world, and Carmen's "Habanera" and "Seguidilla", as well as Escamillo's "Couplet", are popular favourites.

The 2017 Bregenz Festival will run from 19th July to 20th August 2017.
